Walt Disney said, “Do what you do so well that people can’t help but tell others about you.” I don’t think Mr. Disney was necessarily referring to insurance agents when he made this statement, but it certainly applies to us when it comes to getting referrals. And, as you know, referrals are very important to our success!

In our case, some things we can do is go above and beyond our call of duty. Here are some ideas to make yourself stand out:

  1. Replace your policyholders worn and tattered wall jacket.
  2. Make needed name changes promptly.
  3. Obtain duplicate policies.
  4. Replace receipt cards when needed.
  5. Conduct periodic policy reviews to stay up with changes in the policyholder’s life.
  6. Send birthday cards and sympathy cards accordingly.
  7. Maybe simply slow down one day and just ask, “How is your family doing?”

These are some things that will make you memorable and stand out to your policyholders. They will them tell others about you, and you will be ready for that referral. We cannot all be the number one agent every year, and we will never be perfect. BUT you can do what you do so well that people can’t help but tell others about you.
